Design and ergonomics
Talk about looks: It features a 24-inch panel with a matte finish, embossed by a matte black frame with a very reduced edge with a predator logo on the bottom edge. The whole bag measures 22.3 x 10.6 x 21.4 inches and weighs about 6.30 kg.
It comes with a V-shaped base that has a durable, glossy red accent, while the design underscores its nickname of Predator. A sturdy stand is attached, allowing the screen to be lifted up to 5.91 inches and rotated by 30°. You can also tilt the book display screen 90° if you want to use this monitor in the three monitor configuration in vertical position.
It also comes with a VESA 100x100mm wall bracket in case you change your mind and want to place it above your desk to create more space.
Its display resolution is 1920×1080 (Full HD), and like all 1ms (GtG) game monitors, the Acer XB241H is based on a twisted nematic panel, sacrificing color quality and viewing angle for fast response speeds.
This way you get less bright colors, but a faster transition time between the pixels.
TN displays also have narrow viewing angles of 170°/160°, resulting in a shift in colour, brightness and contrast when viewed from certain angles, while a 16:9 (widescreen format) provides a larger screen.
The anti-reflective coating of the screen protects your eyes from damage caused by long play sessions. You benefit from an 8-bit colour depth, a standard contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a 350-bit peak brightness that can be adjusted to suit your needs.
Characteristics
This monitor has many amazing features that can surprise any player. We have listed the most important functions below!
24-inch TN panel
The panel technology of this Acer gamepredator monitor is twisted film or TN technology and not automatic. The pixel distance of this 24-inch TN display is 0.276 millimetres and the flicker-free technology minimises annoying flickering, which can fatigue the eyes after long play sessions. Covering the anti-reflection screen also helps reduce eye strain.
Nvidia G-Sync
Adaptive synchronization is an important feature of any game monitor. It works at a high refresh rate and offers breathtaking image quality and gaming feel. FreeSync from AMD is generally the first choice of OEMs for 144Hz TN monitors, but Acer has good reasons to have confidence in G-Sync. This decision obviously had consequences for the MSRP of the monitor.
Then why does FreeSync prefer G-Sync? The first reason is that the implementation is relatively less expensive. The monitor must have a scale module to support adaptive synchronization, and Nvidia charges a license fee and requires OEMs to purchase their own scale modules, while AMD does not impose such restrictions. For this reason, FreeSync monitors allow for a better understanding, which is also possible at lower prices.
So why is Nvidia G-Sync visible on this monitor? Well, Nvidia requires each G-Sync monitor to meet its own strict standards, so G-Sync tends to work better and offers a few additional features, such as reduced input delay, motion blur, etc., and since Acer has attempted to convert XB241H into a high-quality 144Hz game monitor, it makes sense to use only G-Sync instead of FreeSync.
Recessed speakers
This gaming monitor comes with built-in speakers that completely increase comfort. The monitor is equipped with two 2W rear speakers, which are not particularly spectacular but can be quite loud. So they can be a useful addition to the screen functions if you want to watch YouTube videos, but don’t want to wear headphones, but they’re just not suitable for something serious.
The sound that comes out has no punch or tree, and you also need the right headphones or speaker set for games, movies or music. However, the fact that speakers are built into the monitor is an excellent physical feature that is present in some game monitors.
In addition to these basic functions, it comes with a fully adjustable bracket and a VESA holder that allows tilt and swivel movement in any direction. It has a speed of 144 Hz/1 ms, very fast and responsive. It has a low input delay and G-SYNC can be overclocked to 180 Hz. Not only that, but the fact that it is equipped with many gaming features, including the ULMB.
One of the main disadvantages of this monitor is that the image quality is affected by increasing the refresh rate. Another annoying fact is that it blocks your choice of GPUs for NVIDIA. G-Sync is only compatible with Nvidia GPUs. So, if you have an AMD graphics processor and are considering buying this monitor, you will also need to customize your graphics processor.
OSD and installation
Nothing is more important to the player than a monitor or OSD monitor. It has a direct link to monitoring the performance and effects of the game.
So let’s see what’s stored in the Acer Predator XB241H that can blow players away!
- You can press any button on the iris to start a shortcut menu. The first icon is an uppercase G, i.e. game mode with three memory settings. The second symbol is for overdrive control, the third symbol is for volume control, the fourth symbol is for input and the last symbol is for the full OSD menu.
- Acer eColor Management has five image modes, all fixed except the custom modes. If you make changes to another mode, the system automatically switches to the user.
- The blue light consists of four different levels that heat a white spot to reduce the tension on the eyes, while the darkness enhancer enlarges the lower areas to make the shadows more visible.
- In the settings you will find two gamma presets, 1.8 and 2.2. Although 2.2 remains the default setting, users have noticed greater accuracy when using 1.8.
- The colour temperature has cold, warm and blue light settings, as well as a custom mode, and a saturation control increases or decreases the saturation of all six colours simultaneously. Another important point to note is that the RGB Gain controls start at maximum, so you specify some contrast in the settings.
- The 6-axis adjustment only affects the brightness of each color, which is very important for minimizing adjustments. You will also find an information screen that displays the input, resolution and refresh rate, as well as the status of G-Sync. If you use the game mode presets, it will also tell you which lock is currently active.
- There are three memory slots in game mode, which can be saved directly below the screen with parameter options 1-3, and you can also set the orientation of the visor to the center of the screen. Nothing compulsory, just something for newcomers to the FPS.
- Finally, the most important component, the on-screen menu, is available in 15 languages and can be stored on the screen for up to two minutes. Isn’t that great?
SETTING
- Unpack the box only if you follow the instructions on the top of the box, otherwise parts of the box may be damaged.
- It consists of two parts, a large LCD screen and a bright red stand.
- You can place the monitor on your desk using the monitor stand or, if you need more space, hang it up using the VESA wall mount.
- Other important parts of this monitor are the DisplayPort cable, the HDMI cable and the power cable.
- You will also receive a driver CD for the installation of important software and instructions for setting up and starting your monitor.
- The monitor is very easy to organize, and you can also get help in the accompanying manual.
Quality and performance
When it comes to the play, G-Sync plays an important role. G-SYNC allows you to dynamically adjust the frame rate of your monitor to match the frame rate of the GPU. Note, however, that G-SYNC does not work with AMD cards, so you will need a different Nvidia GPU.
When you connect an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti or higher graphics card to an Acer Predator XB241H 180Hz monitor via the DisplayPort input, you can enable G-SYNC technology and in return get a variable frame rate that eliminates all interruptions and stuttering on the screen without causing the large input delay as with VSync.
You can also use NVIDIA Ultra Low Motion Blur (ULMB) technology, which reduces motion blur and ghosting in dynamic games. But on the other hand, it can’t work with G-SYNC at the same time.
The input delay of this monitor is only ~4ms, which is invisible even to professional gamers and effectively eliminates ghosts and tests of fast moving objects. Fast games are much more responsive and take in the result of the fast response time of 1ms.
It also has a built-in 144 Hz refresh rate, which you can easily speed up to 180 Hz in the OSD menu to increase the clarity of movement.
Finally, the most important feature of this monitor is that it is Energy Star certified and RoHS compliant. This means that the monitor consumes little power, contains no mercury and is best suited for concentrated players who spend several hours working on it. The LED backlighting in turn enables a low power consumption of 28 W and is therefore considered an amazingly powerful monitor, which also saves a considerable amount of energy.
Connection variants
As far as connectivity is concerned, we can expect a small disappointment in this respect. This monitor has a stable standard and VESA mount, but the connectivity is not as generous as it should be.
It has only one DisplayPort 1.2 jack, one HDMI 1.4 jack and one headphone jack. The HDMI port on this monitor peaks at 1920×1080 at 60 Hz thanks to the G-SYNC module, but it is still a bit disappointing that there are no USB ports on this monitor.
It comes with two built-in 2-watt speakers, which are an excellent addition, but in any case players benefit more from the use of their headphones than the speakers. These speakers provide quality sound when you watch a movie or switch to YouTube videos.
Conviction
In short, this monitor costs money. It’s a bit more expensive than other 24 game monitors, but you get Nvidia G-Sync, what more do you want? There are many other alternatives to this Acer monitor, but this model is the best.
If you give a higher priority to the price, you can of course consider this monitor as a dubious investment. But when you look at performance, such a TN monitor is the only way to achieve both high frame rates and low response times, making the Acer Predator XB241H a very tempting choice. The decision is in your hands!
