Obtaining an SSL certificate for your website is no longer a problem these days. If you don’t have an HTTPS website, your business suffers in more ways than one: less security, lower Google rankings and a loss of visitor confidence.
Overview of item
What is an SSL Certificate?
A Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate creates an encrypted connection between your browser and a website and verifies that site. They guarantee the security of the data transmitted, including credit card transactions, passwords and other sensitive information.
Google’s requirements
Google has promoted the use of SSL certificates so strongly in recent years that if you do not have an SSL site (HTTPS), your site’s position in the search engines will drop significantly. In addition, Google now displays an unsecured browser warning for HTTP pages (pages that do not have an additional SSL security layer) in the popular Chrome browser.
Chrome accounts for about 50% of the browser’s market share. Google’s warning will therefore affect a large number of people surfing the web. In addition, a recent HubSpot study showed that up to 85% of users will not continue to surf if a website is not secure. The consequences are disastrous if you don’t have an HTTPS site.
SSL Certificate Selection
Whether you are new to SSL or not satisfied with your current certificate provider, you need to explore the different types of SSL certificates.
SSL certificate types
The three main types are distinguished by their degree of validation. These layers include the verification process that Certification Authorities (CAs) use to authenticate an organization’s domain. The higher the level of control, the more visitors will trust your website.
Domain verification (DV)
DV certificates are the simplest and cheapest form of SSL. To obtain this type of SSL, website owners only need to prove that they have administrative control over the domain.
They provide session numbering, but the DV does not contain any company information in the certificate. This means that visitors to the site cannot check whether your company owns the site. PD certificates are not recommended for commercial installations.
Organisation – Controlled (OV)
For public transport certificates, the CA confirms domain ownership and organizational information such as name, city and country. OV is a step up from DV and includes company information in the certificate data so that your visitors can trust the identity of your site.
Extended validation (EV)
EV certificates contain the largest amount of company data and companies must meet stricter requirements in order to obtain EV certification. They add the highest level of credibility to your website by displaying verified and secure identities for your company in the green address bar. EVs are the most expensive type of SSL and can last for several weeks.
Do you need to secure multiple sites?
In addition to the three basic types of SSL certificates, many Certificate Authorities also offer multi-domain SSL and wildcard SSL options to cover multiple websites or subdomains under a single certificate.
Multi-domain SSL
With a multi-domain SSL Certificate, or SAN, you can protect multiple FQDNs (Full Qualified Domain Names) with a single certificate. Each CA determines the number of domains you can cover with a single certificate, which can range from 25 to 100 or more.
Wildcard SSL
A wildcard SSL certificate allows you to secure an unlimited number of subdomains (at the same defined level) for a single certificate domain. If you need to cover subdomains at different levels (e.g. *.example.com and *.sub1.example.com), you will need an additional poker certificate for each level.

GlobalSign is a trusted certification body with more than 20 years of experience in providing trusted security solutions. GlobalSign specializes in highly scalable and fully managed PKI solutions for enterprises, but is also a reliable publisher of SSL certificates for enterprises of all sizes.
The main reasons why GlobalSign is not in the top three are the lack of customer support and the high prices. They are expensive and in most cases you can get the same security and features at a lower price from other vendors. We found many comments from dissatisfied customers about the inefficiency of their customer service.
