Doesn’t the sound work on my computer after I upgraded to Windows 10 20H2 and performed audio troubleshooting? Is the audio service not responding? This error means that Windows cannot communicate with the audio devices in your computer and usually occurs because the audio driver is outdated and not working properly, or because when you update Windows 10 20H2, the audio driver is damaged. Again, conflicts with third party software or sound tuning problems do not result in sound being transmitted to the computer or laptop because the audio service message does not respond. And restarting the audio service and updating the audio driver with the latest version will probably fix the audio services not responding to Windows 10.
Audio services do not respond to Windows 10
Before following the troubleshooting steps, check the speaker and headphone jacks for loose wires or incorrect plugs.
Check the power and volume and try to increase all volume buttons.
Make sure you have the latest Windows updates installed on your device, which not only provide security fixes, but also fix previous bugs that may cause Windows 10 to stop responding to sound or audio services.
Launching Windows Audio Services
Let’s start or restart the Windows Audio service and the dependent Windows Audio Endpoint Builder and Plug and Play services.
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc and press ok.
- This opens the Windows service console, scrolls down and finds the Windows audio service,
- Check the status of the Windows sound service when it is running, right-click and select Restart,
- If the audio service is not active, right-click on the audio window and select Properties,
- Set the start type to Automatic and start the function as soon as it is executed.
- Click Apply and OK to save your changes,
- The same can be done with Windows Audio Endpoint Builder and the Plug and Play service.
Reinstalling audio drivers
As mentioned earlier, non-responsive audio services are usually due to outdated, corrupt or incompatible audio drivers in Windows. And reinstalling the audio driver is probably the most feasible solution to solve the problem.
- Right-click the Windows 10 Start button and select Device Manager.
- A list of all installed device drivers is displayed,
- Find and improve sound, video and game controllers,
- Right-click on the audio driver and select Remove Device.
- Click the Delete button again if confirmation is required and restart the computer.
The next time you boot Windows, the built-in audio driver will automatically install for you and check if the sound is working as expected. You can also visit the device manufacturer’s website to download the latest audio driver and install it on your PC.
Install a generic audio driver
Many Windows users who have experienced this problem have solved it by simply installing a high-definition audio device driver on their system.
- Open the device manager with devmgmt.msc
- Upgrade the sound, video and game controllers Right-click on the sound device and select Upgrade Driver.
- It is now possible to install the drivers automatically or manually. Select Scan My Computer to find the driver software.
- Select Let me choose from a list of drivers available on my computer.
- Click High Resolution Audio Device, and then click Next.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation and restart your computer.
Execution of the commands adding the network service and adding the local service
This is another solution that will help most Windows users solve their Windows 10 sound problem.
- Open a command prompt as administrator,
- Type net localgroup administrators /add network service and press Enter,
- After executing the command, type net localgroup administrators /add localalservice and press Enter,
- That’s all I’m saying. Leave the command line and restart your computer.
Changing the baud rate of the reading equipment
- Right-click on the sound icon in the taskbar at the bottom right of the screen and select Sounds.
- In the Playback tab, select the current playback device (by default it is set to Speaker) and double-click on the device to open its properties.
- Now click on the Advanced tab and change the bit rate to 24 bit/44100 Hz or 24 bit/192000 Hz, depending on your speaker configuration.
- Then check to see if the sound problems on your Windows 10 computer have been resolved.
Troubleshooting for Windows
Now launch the built-in audio troubleshooter, which automatically detects and corrects the problem with non-responsive audio services on your computer.
- Right-click on the Start menu to select Settings,
- On the Settings screen, tap Update and Security, and then tap Troubleshoot,
- In the right window, search for the audio playback and click the Troubleshooting radio button.
- Then follow the on-screen instructions while the Windows troubleshooter attempts to detect and fix audio problems on your computer. In this case it makes sense to have Windows reinstall the audio driver and try the Microsoft HD Audio driver.
- Finally, Windows found a problem with the audio driver and solved it.
